Study the role, not just the company

Read the job description carefully and identify the five or six capabilities the employer is most likely to test. Prepare a recent example for each one, including the situation, your actions and the result.

Refresh the practical detail

Technical interviewers may explore drawings, fault diagnosis, processes, standards or software. Be ready to explain how you approach a problem rather than trying to guess a perfect answer.

  • Review the equipment and systems named in the advert
  • Prepare examples involving safety and quality
  • Know your notice period and salary expectations
  • Bring sensible questions about the team and work

Be honest about gaps

No candidate knows everything. If a tool or process is new to you, connect it to similar experience and explain how you would learn it. A clear, methodical answer builds more confidence than bluffing.
