Programming and control knowledge
Employers value machinists who can move confidently from drawing to finished component. Experience with controls such as Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens or Mazatrol can be especially useful, but the ability to understand toolpaths and adapt across controls matters too.
Quality at the machine
Inspection is part of modern machining. Strong candidates can select and use measuring equipment, interpret geometric tolerances and record results accurately.
- Reading complex engineering drawings
- Selecting tooling and cutting data
- Using micrometers, verniers, gauges and CMM equipment
- Understanding GD&T and traceability requirements
How to demonstrate your experience
On your CV and at interview, describe the machines, axis configurations, materials, batch sizes and tolerances you have handled. A specific example is more persuasive than saying you have worked in precision engineering.
