Collide Technical Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of our client, an established precision engineering and manufacturing business based in Bournemouth, for an experienced CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator to join their growing machine shop facility.
About the role
Our client manufactures precision components used across a wide range of industries and applications, including healthcare, mobility, transport, leisure and industrial markets. They are looking for an experienced CNC machinist capable of programming, setting and operating CNC lathes to manufacture high-quality, close-tolerance components efficiently and safely. Experience with Tornos or Citizen sliding-head lathes would be a distinct advantage, although this is not essential as training can be provided to the right candidate. Key Responsibilities Programming Program sliding-head CNC lathes using G-code and/or offline CAM software. Optimise programs to improve cycle times, tooling efficiency and component quality. Modify existing programs to improve performance and resolve machining issues. Setting & Operation Set and prove out sliding-head CNC machines, including Citizen and Tornos. Select, prepare and set cutting tools, guide bushes and workholding. Operate CNC machines to manufacture components to engineering drawings and specifications. Monitor machine performance and adjust offsets where required. Maintain consistently high standards of accuracy and productivity. Quality & Inspection Inspect manufactured components using equipment including micrometers, verniers and gauges. Work to close engineering tolerances. Ensure components meet required quality, dimensional and surface-finish standards. Identify and resolve machining or quality issues during production. Health, Safety & Compliance Maintain high standards of Health & Safety within the machine shop. Report any concerns or potential hazards immediately. Ensure full compliance with company procedures and relevant regulations. Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment. What we’re looking for
- Previous CNC turning experience.
- CNC programming, setting and operating experience.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment.
- Good knowledge of cutting tools, speeds, feeds and machining processes.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot machining issues.
- A strong focus on quality and accuracy.
- Previous Citizen and/or Tornos sliding-head experience would be advantageous, but is not essential.
